About Jaya Rehabilitation Institute & Research Center

Background & Founding

  • Origins in Earthquake Relief (2001)
  • In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Kutch on January 26, 2001, countless individuals were left with disabilities—thousands lost limbs, and hundreds became paraplegic. Addressing the urgent need for comprehensive physical rehabilitation, the Shree Bidada Sarvodaya Trust rose to the challenge. Under the guidance of Honorary Director Mr. Mukesh Doshi and Associate Director Mr. Veerendra Shandilya, a temporary rehabilitation center was established to provide immediate care and support for earthquake survivors.

Growth & Recognition

  • National Award (2012) & Limca Book of Records (2003, Page 40)
  • Recognized for its extraordinary dedication and service, Jaya Rehab received the prestigious National Award in 2012. Earlier, in 2003, it set a record for hosting the largest number of paraplegic individuals under one roof for a caregiver training program, earning a place in the Limca Book of Records.
  • Permanent Establishment (2004)
  • To ensure ongoing rehabilitation services beyond the immediate disaster response, the Jaya Rehabilitation Institute & Research Center was permanently established. It integrated multiple departments—Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Prosthetic & Orthotic Services, Speech & Audiology, and Vocational Training—under one roof. Crucially, earthquake victims continue to receive free rehabilitation services to this day.

Expansion & Specialized Departments

Facilities Enhancement (2009)

With industrial growth, an increasing population, and a rise in accidents and injuries, Jaya Rehab expanded its infrastructure by adding a new floor in 2009. This allowed the center to accommodate a greater number of patients and offer more comprehensive rehabilitation services.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL) & Functional Training (2013–14)

The institute introduced ADL and functional training to foster independence and enhance everyday life skills for individuals with disabilities. Additional services were launched for cognitive, play, and sensory integration therapies, particularly benefiting children’s development.

Foot Care Unit (2018)

Addressing posture issues in children and diabetic foot ulcers in older populations, the Foot Care Unit was established. It emphasizes early detection and prevention of foot-related conditions, ensuring holistic care from childhood through older age.

Public Utility Service Training (2019)

Understanding the difficulties persons with disabilities face in using public transportation and utilities, Jaya Rehab introduced a dedicated training department. This initiative empowers individuals with disabilities to navigate schools, workplaces, and community spaces more confidently.
